Ty Halderman's contributions to the Unreal world.
It hasn't been known, but the team tnt member, Ty Halderman, has contributed to the developement of a game side by Unreal, where multiple people who worked on Unreal worked on it as well and for most of the time it used the same game engine.
That game being The Circle.
I have unfortunately found out that TY has passed away in 2015.
I do have his map in unr format. Though it's impossible to open as of right now. It requires a 1996 Unreal alpha, one which still had the cross symbol on it. As screenshots of this map being loaded in the editor exist.
I was thinking of making a tribute to Ty by having his maps converted to regular Unreal. But I really do need that '96 version as it wasn't found yet.
Well, two people who hang around the Unreal community have it as of now. I hope that this is a serious reason enough to consider finally sharing it.
Please.

I don't think 100 percent of all betas would ever be recovered unless Tim Sweeney would open up his safe somewhere.
But seriously, at least this version, we know it's out there and this is actually not a small map, more over it should contain the "bugman" and the other wizard skin in full, original.
Unfortunately, back then it was more difficult to keep archives of something, most storage methods were fragile in that when the developers find anything these days its usually half corrupt or unusable at all.
I came across this screenshot of the Torg map and had idea to contact someone about it and he found some archives from the circle, including one of those maps, but not the unreal/unrealed to open it with.
Hence my pledge/request here. Especially as I came to know who the author really was.

Re: Ty Halderman's contributions to the Unreal world.
MMU just asked me for pictures, well here they are, possibly taken by Ty Halderman himself:
Note that it has the editor with the cross symbol just like on the preview pictures with the "bugman" being shown in the map with this editor. This is the elusive '96 beta and without it can't run.
The art/sketches are of Daniel Cook though.
The strings in the map says so anyway.

We really do need to have all those early versions out in the light.

I'm setting up a tent and going on hunger strike.
I've got a legacy to keep here.

I'm attaching a file I sent to VooDoo as well, this here can't be opened by normal means unless a beta is shared. If you don't wanna share it with the public yet or because of the other person, at least please share with me so I can continue my research.
Thank you.
Thank you.

Re: Ty Halderman's contributions to the Unreal world.
I've contacted an old-time Level Designer on Unreal that worked there the least amount of time compared to the rest of the team.
However unfortunately, he claims he's lost everything. This was a good bet otherwise because he worked on Unreal during 1996 and he was a good level designer. I'm still talking to him about trivia.
So I'm back at nothing now.

Re: Ty Halderman's contributions to the Unreal world.
He was not exactly happy with the Unreal Editor and fact that back then a lot of functionality was broken or not implemented.
And Tim wasn't considerate enough to provide better tools.
Either way, he worked on Opposing Force for example, one of the best examples of his work include "Foxtrot Uniform" and the following level.
I did ask him if he would be willing to make a level in his spare time for the release version of Unreal, perhaps in some anniversary event and he declined given his busy schedule.

Not very well. I managed to contact more people but they are so busy that they have only time to respond briefly and they don't have anything else.
We still need that beta and it's not going to come from them.
Also Bryan has been helping me with the task of reaching to them when I couldn't. And at least that's worthwhile. I really think you should reconsider him as being someone who's trying to be helpful.
