What can we do to that chicken?

From a little known mutator called "Capture the Chicken" in which only the person with the chicken can score, so you gotta kill whoever has the chicken so then you can have it and score... which is fun but not at all that.

Those of us who love monsters and put the "un" in "unreal" (not sure what that means) might have more demented ideas for this little feather duster.

Even if it were something so benign as having it wander around until it got close enough to peck someone's foot off... if you wanted to extract this chicken from the gametype, what would you do with it to make it more interesting?

I'm already picturing a stampede of these clucking horrors charging at me...

You're aware that there used to be a gametype in vanilla Unreal called Kill the Cow that was removed just before the release?

The PC Gamer supplement still listed it and so on, when the review for Unreal came out.

It was unfinished in the big beta, but that loose unreali.u from emissary developement that had the Kill The Cow already finished. Nobody yet made a working thing out of it though which might be a shame.

As in it worked in the beta but for the release Unreal the code crashed the game eventually when ported raw I believe.

But it was way more along than the code shown in the well known beta and others.

I can honestly say I didn't, and I'm now sad I never got to play it.

There was also a mod for unreal 220 which took that idea, they called it capture the cow.

It was actually made, but now it's lost in time with all the old links way not working and me not being able to find all the references anymore either. Same with the very original Unreal 2D mod.

There was a ton of good stuff related to planetunreal, but when the old and big unreal community sites collapses, new fan sites like unrealsp.org at the time started from scratch and they didn't cover it and most of them didn't even know about it. The unreal community just went into a rather "clean slate" at that time with most of the regulars being gone just in a split second and taking everything with them.

I believe there is still a site called blue news or what, that you can still trace the announcements of those mod versions being released. Conquer the Base is also a mod that was developed further than the versions we have, even ported to 224 and above, but the latest versions are lost in time too! But at least the earlier ones still exist...

Can't say that for mods like capture the cow and unreal 2d (the original 1999 one).

EDIT: The site was at planetunreal.com/moo but I can't find it being properly saved via web archive.

There was a mod like that for a half-life engine game mod called wanted. Quite fun but never knew Unreal originally had it in beta o.o

I would likely give the chicken a claw kick attack and make it lay eggs that are worth a kill point ^w^

I played a lot of that Wanted mod, there was multiplayer only (with bots) version shipped with the Half Life Generations package, as a bonus for the counterstrike CD. (together with the singleplayer expansion Redemption - the only singleplayer thing on that entire CD - if you don't count the counterstrike training mission)...

Later I got to play and finish the full version of Wanted also with singleplayer included. Pretty strange TC but well-done at times. It did have its dull moments though especially at the beginning.

But it was like half life turned wild-west. I wish they would have done more of that custom stuff instead for the redemption pack and have new weapons there too.

I mean it's a shame that there were all new weapons and items and enemies for Wanted, while in Redemption anything new that was there were cut enemies and a new type of "barney", just reskinned old model duplicate called boris or roy (apart from regular barney, now with moustache and beard)...

But apart from those reskins there was absolutely nothing new in Redemption, which given what the team could do with Wanted and their cancelled game, it's really a shame.

Yeah had they actually been allowed to finish everything it would have been a big winner. Course like every project it can be cancelled for any number of reasons including "OMG IT MIGHT MAKE OUR GAME LOOK BAD" Which is what happened to Unreal II: The Awakening. I wont really complain, I loved the SP campaign xD everyone else had a unfavorable opinion.

Custom content i what I love about Unreal and Unreal Tournament. Can go from being in the unreal themed series to being thrown into a entirely different one depending on the mapper. Unreal is the only game that had a easy to use editor and ability to make a quick hangout for friends ^w^

I don't know what you're refering to @ Unreal2 though.

I do know a lot of the history behind the game (but who hasn't these days anyways, thanks to all those articles of greatemerald which were "mostly" accurate).

I had big hopes regarding the recovery of wheel of time and unreal 2 related stuff, and it went crashing down during my move to where I live now and the hijack of "someone".

I never got to play wheel of time sounded pretty decent what I once read on it. I have always been a fan of games, mostly adventure shooters like unreal.

I wish the story line for unreal was continued because really we all heard hints mentioned in ut but I guess they figured it was not worth the effort.
