CHRISTMAS FUN SERVER!

Well it's that time of year again when a lot of us celebrate Christmas and New Year with peace on earth and goodwill to all men and all that kind of stuff....... so it's obviously time to have some fun at the.........

:star: CHRISTMAS :innocent: SERVER :star:

If you prefer launching snowballs to grenades and like your superhealth in the shape of a snowman then it's time for some Festive Fraggin' . It uses parts of the MMLXMAS2 mod released in 2005 where thanks go to the (now defunct) Moo Moo Land server. I know there is an MMLXMAS3 mod, but I preferred to use the earlier version. It also uses GoPostal's goChristmasLights mod, so big thanks to him. Lastly, it uses UMapMutator which is my favourite mutator, so thanks to Masterkent for that.

(1) Comedy hats (virtual or otherwise) must be worn at all times.

Finished work today so Christmas is finally here and I had chance to enhance the server a bit more by adding more custom pawns, items and parts of the MMLXMAS3 mod.

I love doing the themed servers, it's such a nice alternative. I wish I had thought to do santa hats for all the default player models. Nice job guys keeping the game alive. Merry Christmas!

Thanks very much Kelly (GoPostal in case some don't know) for your goChristmasLights mod, it has been fun to experiment with.

Just out of interest, is there an upper limit to how high the lights themselves can be above the items/pathnodes?

I'm sorry, I just saw this. I hadn't actually logged in for a while lol.

To answer your question, not really. The mod starts at the pathnode, pickup, etc and starts drawing directly upwards from that point. If you declare a value beyond the height of the roof it will simply create the light at the roof and stop there. I'll make a much better version of this ahead of Christmas this year. It needs some optimization added. I really want to do Santa hats for players (if it's at all possible) too.

This is a bit Off topic but I didn't want to add another post just to thank staff here. I don't play much on the server though I do support the members and clan in any way I can. Newbies should be commended for it's ongoing support of Unreal and for offering so many services to the remaining community of players. I for one seriously appreciate it and thank you all for your work. I love this old game and I'll likely ride it to the end of my line so it's greatly encouraging to see a place like this keeping the Uflame burning. Thank you!

Well this seemed to be well-received last year so it has been resurrected and improved for this year!
Thanks to Nikola-(DOG)- for the idea of bringing it back this year and special thanks to her again for her awesome reworking of the map Nali Castle. She had plans for the rest of the "outdoor" maps, but due to RL issues, had to put further map retexturing to one side for now. So "WOOF" to Nikola-(DOG)- and thanks for your great map, which can be downloaded by clicking the following link.....

Note that this is the only map worth playing in isolation offline, because although most of the maps have minor edits in them, the Christmas server maps rely almost 90% on the mutators I have used. However I have now put new music into half the maps now and will be adding more today.

Where possible, I have used tracker/mod files (MOD, S3M, XM etc), since these are of far less size and make the job a lot easier. However this was obviously impossible for tracks like "The Prodigy - Firestarter", so I had to resort to the "cheap" method of importing a suitable WAV into ModPlug Tracker and basically having it as a giant one-note sample. Whilst this method works fine, it results in a large sized UMX, so a couple of the music files are over 10Mb, not necessarily a huge deal nowadays but I wasn't prepared to drop the quality to 8-bit, because well 8-bit is great if you like nostalgia, but in 2016 I'm gonna need at least 16 bit.

Note that whilst the maps have the extension "xmas_music", this doesn't mean that all the music is based on Christmas, they are just songs/tracks that people have mentioned to me over the years that they like. In fact even the ones based on Christmas are not traditional and sung, they are - well - just cheesy. :titter:

So load up your Flak Cannon with some Fruit Cake and frag that nasty man Santa with well placed shots of ornaments.
Smash a Nali in the face with a snowball and wear a silly hat.

And remember............... anyone joining the server with a Grinch factor greater than 49.99% will receive a bash over the head with a large cooked turkey.

Oh and don't go eating any yellow snow!

I just played the "new" SkyTown and it was a total fun. Well, actually I was more laughing than playing :Drogar-BigGrin:
I just thought again about the problem in ExtremeEnd. This happens because the mapfilename is different now.
A global AutoRunCommand can not fix it, LOL, it would also effect all other maps too.
But if the Christmas server runs the same GameType as on Jackals the problem should be easy to fix with the UMapMod. Or, since the map was already reworked you could do it by hand in the map itself.

The new SkyTown map has a nasty hole in the ground where I fell in :Drogar-Laugh:
A BlockAll actor should fix this problem very easy.

No that is not a problem because UMapMutator can specify an AutoRun command on an individual map basis, in the section "LevelAutoRunCommands".

Ho ho ho - Merry Christmas! A bit late, but it does not matter. We can have a fun anyway, right? I've been unable to rework this map for a while due to some serious issues, but now I plan to do some more maps + the promised suprised one :Drogar-Happy:. Sky town is one of my favourite maps to play. I thought it would be nice to put there winter textures and change some parts. Actually there is alot of unused space (mainly the buildings). I never noticed that before opening in the ditor. I changed the map in the visual part quite alot, but the gameplay is still same even though some parts are extended.
- music fixed by VooDoo, so the file is smaller and you are not gonna spend the rest of your life downloading (She is the best! You gotta love her)
- hole fixed with BlockAll actor (Thanks to Leela for reminding me again)


Big thanks goes to Strategy for letting us to use the server slot (and not going crazy what would happen :Drogar-BigGrin: :Drogar-BigGrin:) and VooDoo for doing the music!
