Terrain - Mastered

Post by Master_Unreal »

I did some building in the UT Editor today. While building (DM-NoxxResearch) I had a bit of a "connect the dots" moment with my head.

I remembered the demon-head torches in Nali Castle and before the skaarj mothership, and remembered that they used 3dsmax then imported it as a brush. I then thought about this technique with terrain......sure enough, here is the best method for doing terrain

To those mappers interested in trying this, you'll need 3 things

1. Blender 2.5x (don't grab the 2.6 beta, its a bit unstable)
(http://download.blender.org/release/Ble ... dows32.zip) 32 bit
(http://download.blender.org/release/Ble ... dows64.zip) 64 bit

2. Python, programming language Blender uses (this is unfortunately a pain to determine which version you need,
if this doesn't work try versions 2.4-2.6)
(http://python.org/ftp/python/2.7.2/pyth ... .amd64.msi)

3. A heightmap and some imagination (No links here  )

PM me and I will write up a tutorial on how to do this, should mass amounts of people want it I'll release it here

Is that really a better method?
I mean, does it create Less Lag, polys, etc?
Does it look better?
